Updated August 16, 2019:
We are not accepting any new requests for trees. Sorry if you just heard about us!
We are still working on a few dozen unfulfilled tree-requests in our queue from last season.
It usually takes two to four months from a submitted request to the tree(s) being planted, but sometimes less and sometimes more. Since our grant funding ends in December, and we need time to wrap up our invoices and reports to the State of California, we are not taking on any new requests.
If we reopen our tree-request process, we will put our online form back up on this page.
For now, we would like to refer you to our sister-program, the Sierra Club Tree Team.
(Click on the name for the link to their page. Their page includes a link to their request-form.)
We have worked closely with them for as long as we've been around.
The Sierra Club Tree Team operates on a sliding-scale pricing system -- pay what you can, and they will use other people's donations to cover the remainder. As of summer 2019, the typical cost for a tree is around $100, and the typical cost to cut a new tree-well out of the sidewalk (if needed) is $200. If you would have qualified for a free tree from Trees for Oakland (see below), the leaders of the SCTT want to provide a free tree to you, too. We are helping the SCTT find funding from various sources to let them fulfill that goal.

Click HERE to see a map of the eligible “Disadvantaged Communities” (DACs) and surrounding buffer-zones of Oakland, using the CalEnviroScreen 2.0 rating system.
These areas qualify for free trees under the California Climate Investments grant, administered by CAL FIRE, awarded to the nonprofit Oakland Parks and Recreation Foundation, and carried out by Trees for Oakland.
At the top left corner of the map, click on the red "magnifying glass" and enter your address. If it shows up inside the green outline, your address is eligible.
